Alberto Lim Jr. failed to advance in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open Juniors after losing to his French rival on Tuesday.
Lim, currently the world’s No. 35 junior player, bowed to Maxence Broville of France, 6-4, 7-6 (3), in the second round of the boys’ singles competition at the Melbourne Park.
Broville’s victory set him up against top seed Wu Yibing of China, who prevailed over Briton Finn Bass, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Other seeds who made it to the quarterfinals were No. 2 Taiwanese Yu Hsiou Hsu, No. 4 Israeli Yshi Oliel and No. 5 Corentin Moutet.
Hsu defeated American Tristan Boyer, 6-3, 6-0, to advance against No. 15 Hungarian Zsombor Piros, a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Australian Benard Bruno Nkomba.
Oliel outplayed Australian Matthew Dellavedova, 6-2, 6-1, to arrange a quarterfinal showdown with American Alexander Rotsaert, who eliminated No. 14 Dan Added of France, 6-2, 6-1.
Moutet downed Romanian Vlad Andrei Dancu, 6-1, 6-3, to advance against Japanese Shinji Hasawa, a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Dutch Jesper de Jong.
Russian Alexey Zakitarov, Italian Federico Iannaccone and Menelaos Efstatiou of Cyprus likewise earned seats in the next round.
Zakitarov ousted No. 7 Australian Alexei Popyrin, 6-3, 6-0, to forge a quarterfinal meeting with Australian Chase Ferguson, who scored a 6-4, 7-6 (6) victory over No. 11 Ergi Kirkin of Turkey.
Iannaccone outclassed Australian Alexander Crnokrak, 6-2, 6-2, to advance against Matteo Martineau of France, who conquered Australian Rinky Hitikata, 6-4, 6-2.
Efstatiou rallied past Taiwanese Chun Hsin Tseng, 6-0, 2-6, 6-4, to advance against No. 6 Portuguese Duarte Vale, a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Australian Moerani Bouzige. PNA
