The Philippine Navy and Globalport Terminals Inc. (GTI) have signed a memorandum of agreement aimed at creating an affiliated reserve unit within the port operator to support national defense efforts.
According to the Navy, the agreement was formalized last week at Naval Station Jose Andrada in Manila. The memorandum was signed by PN chief Jose Ma. Ambrosio Ezpeleta and GTI chair Shiela Marie Romero.
Navy public affairs chief Marie Angelica Sisican said the initiative seeks to organize and train selected GTI personnel as part of the reserve force in coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
“The agreement aims to establish an affiliated reserve unit within GTI to support national defense and ensure the continuity of critical port operations during times (of) national emergency. In partnership with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, GTI personnel will be organized and trained as part of the reserve force,” Sisican said.
The partnership underscores GTI’s role in maritime and port operations, particularly in supporting the logistical and operational requirements of the Navy while strengthening civil–military cooperation.
Ezpeleta welcomed the collaboration, saying it reflects a shared commitment to advancing the country’s maritime development.
“Your commitment to partnering with your PN reflects our shared vision aimed at advancing our maritime nation’s development for the benefit of the present and future generations of Filipinos,” he said.
The Navy added that the agreement forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen national resilience, enhance maritime security, and ensure the continued operation of critical port infrastructure in support of the country’s development and defense initiatives.
