NCR wage hike to boost workers’ pay, benefits – DOLE

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Thursday said the newly approved ₱85 increase in the daily minimum wage in the National Capital Region (NCR) will not only raise workers’ take-home pay but also increase several wage-related benefits mandated by law.

Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino said the wage adjustment, which takes effect in two tranches, will significantly improve the earnings of minimum wage earners in Metro Manila.

“Their current earnings stand at ₱18,127. For those working six days a week—such as security guards—this figure will rise to ₱19,692 by July 19, and subsequently to ₱20,345 by Jan. 20, 2027,” Tolentino said.

He explained that the higher basic wage will also translate into increased monetary benefits that are computed based on workers’ daily pay.

These include holiday pay, overtime pay, premium pay for work on rest days and special non-working days, night shift differential, service incentive leave pay, 13th-month pay, separation pay, retirement pay, and other benefits provided under existing labor laws.

“Overtime pay and night shift differentials will also increase, as will other benefits. For instance, work performed on a holiday is compensated at double the rate. Thus, there are ripple effects on various benefits that will be felt by—and provide assistance to—workers in Metro Manila,” Tolentino said.

The labor chief urged employers in Metro Manila to comply with the new wage order within the prescribed period and ensure the proper computation and payment of all wage-related benefits.

Tolentino also assured workers that wage reviews are continuing in other regions, in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive for regional wage boards to conduct assessments and public consultations within 60 days before the anniversary of their latest wage orders.

DOLE advised employers and workers seeking clarification on the implementation of the new wage order and the computation of related benefits to coordinate with the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board–National Capital Region or contact the DOLE Hotline 1349.
