‘Registration on Wheels’ – the latest initiative of the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) is getting hotter than ever, even in this cool, breezy city of Baguio.
Baguio City is now one of the hottest spots in terms of senior citizen registrants, which is now nearing 5,000 (including manual registration) since the NCSC Registration Booth was launched here at the SM Activity Center less than a month ago.
Its mother program, “Registration on Wheels’ is constantly monitoring these developments after its launch and caravan on April 18-20 in Ilocos Norte and Ilicos Sur spearheaded by Northern and Southern Luzon Comms. Rainier Cruz and Reymar Mansilungan.
Comm. Mansilungan led a lean staff and left Manila for Baguio aa early as 2AM on Friday to catch up with the 10AM opening of SM City Baguio where dozens of senior citizens have already lined up to register online.
NCSC Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR) Project Development Officer 2 Grace Bandoy, who took care of the early registrants said the latest initiative supported by SM Cares Foundation has been attracting at an average of not less 200 seniors per day.
A brainchild of NCSC Chairman Franklin Quijano, the aggressive senior citizens online database registration campaign has breached the 1.7 million mark (as of press time) since it was launched more than 5 months ago.
At a ratio of one is to one for the online and manual registration, Quijano said the present tally would easily be 3.3 million registrants if the latter have been encoded and validated.
The NCSC is targeting at least 8-9 million registered senior citizens on the NCSC Database out of the total 12 million, by the end of the year.
