PDEG flexes P2.4-B narcotics haul

The Philippine National Police – Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) confiscated nearly P2.4 billion worth of illegal drugs in operations conducted from January 1 to December 18, 2024.

PDEG chief Brig. Gen. Eleazar Matta disclosed on Friday that the haul included 168 kilograms of shabu, 3,866,600 fully grown marijuana plants, 1,830 kilograms of dried marijuana leaves, 48.672 kilograms of ketamine, 36.9 kilograms of kush, 1,343 ecstasy tablets, and 90 grams of cocaine.

These substances were seized during 698 operations, including buy-busts, search warrant services, and marijuana eradication drives, resulting in the arrest of 809 drug suspects and 232 wanted individuals.

Additionally, four trafficked persons were rescued during interdiction efforts, defined as actions to intercept and seize illegal goods in transit.

Matta emphasized the PDEG’s focus on interdiction and proactive, high-impact operations, underscoring the importance of integrity and transparency. He said body-worn cameras are consistently used during operations, and airtight cases are prepared to ensure successful prosecution.

He also honored police operatives who lost their lives in the line of duty.

“The heroism of these operatives inspires the entire force to press on, ensuring that their sacrifices were not in vain,” Matta said.

He attributed this success to the recalibrated Anti-Illegal Drug Campaign Roadmap 2024–2028, which adopts a human-rights-focused and community-driven approach to addressing the country’s drug problem.

This strategy aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s vision of a humane, bloodless, and inclusive anti-drug campaign.
