For an artist, the personal is inspirational.
Nothing more fulfilling and motivational than drawing out contents of music from real-life experiences.
The mysteries of life.
The vagaries of human relationships.
This is the reason behind Ice Seguerra’s latest composition of lyrics and melody in the song “Shelter of the Broken” which was supposedly dropped in some digital music box last June 28, 2025.
Too bad, a death in the family took a toll on his excitement when his mother Caridad Yamson Seguerra, better known as Mommy Caring, passed away one day before the record was uploaded.
On his Facebook wall, Ice expressed his emptiness if not desolation over his mom’s death.
“Wala pa akong buo na lakas. Wala pa akong masabi (I haven’t regained strength yet. I can’t say anything yet),” the actor-singer shared.
“Shelter of the Broken” has offered him a refuge.
It is a realization, an enlightenment.
“Pero itong kantang ’to (But this song)…it came out the day after I lost the most important woman in my life. And somehow, mas lalo ko siyang naiintindihan ngayon (I am able to understand her better),” quipped Ice.
“Para ’to sa lahat ng kagaya kong pilit bumabangon kahit durog. Na kahit hindi mo alam kung paano, umaasa ka pa ring may silong. Na kahit masakit, may pag-asa pa rin (This is for all who are standing up after each fall. That even if you don’t know how and why so still hope you’ll have a roof above your head).
“I’ve been looking forward to sharing this song with all of you today hoping it could help someone out there, the same way it helped me make sense of things.
“And with everything that’s happening…mas lalo kong naiintindihan kung bakit ko talaga siya sinulat (Now I understand why I wrote this.
“I want to share this with anyone who feels lost, or confused; for anyone just trying to make it through the day. Even when you’re falling apart, there is shelter. There is hope.”
Ice poignantly dedicated the song to his mom.
“Mama, this is yours. You are in every word. Kasama ka sa bawat linya, sa bawat nota, sa bawat paghinga (You are in every line in every note, in every breath). Mahal na mahal kita (I love you so much.”
