NLEX gears up vs. flooding ahead of rains

NLEX Corp. is intensifying efforts to mitigate the effects of flooding during the rainy season to prevent any expressway traffic congestion while safeguarding motorists.

These efforts include clearing of drainage networks and preventive maintenance of water pumps and detention tanks in Balintawak and Paso de Blas in Valenzuela.

NLEX extended its cleanup efforts beyond the expressway due to interconnection of waterways. Company teams removed garbage and accumulated silt from narrow, hard-to-reach and heavily clogged waterways across Valenzuela, Caloocan and Manila.

NLEX president and general manager Luis Reñon said, “Having cleaned critical and flood prone waterways in surrounding areas affecting the expressway, we believe that stormwater can now flow more freely and help reduce the risk of overflows that sometimes reach the expressway.”

“We deeply appreciate the partnership with the DPWH, TRB, MMDA and the LGUs in these clean-up operations, and we join them in encouraging residents to help keep waterways free from trash,” Reñon added.

NLEX also pre-positioned critical response equipment, including portable flood barriers for low-lying expressway sections, rescue boats and emergency assets.

They further upgraded monitoring systems by installing cameras at critical creek crossings, tracking water levels in real time, allowing teams to rapidly deploy response units and issue immediate traffic advisories.

NLEX mobilized maintenance crews for pavement repairs across the expressway networks, including asphalt overlay between Ciudad de Victoria and Bocaue. Other safety measures include enhancing roadside shoulder drainage and trimming trees to minimize the risk of falling branches during strong winds.

Emergency and traffic teams are on standby, maintaining close, synchronized coordination with national agencies and local authorities.
