Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. (Metrobank) is marking its 64th anniversary this September with a stronger balance sheet and continued focus on supporting Filipino consumers and businesses amid changing economic conditions.
Since opening its first branch in Binondo in 1962, Metrobank has expanded its services as the financial needs of Filipinos and businesses have evolved.
“Over the past 64 years, we have seen our customers navigate many periods of change and uncertainty. Today is no different. There are challenges ahead that we have to be prepared for, but Metrobank enters this environment with discipline, well-supported by our capital, liquidity, and risk buffers to help us navigate uncertainty and continue supporting our customers,” Metrobank President Fabian Dee said.
In the first half of 2026, the bank posted ₱24.9 billion in net income and ₱3.9 trillion in consolidated assets. It also maintained healthy capital and asset quality, providing additional room to absorb risks while continuing to lend and invest in its operations.
The Asian Banker has named Metrobank the Strongest Bank in the Philippines for five consecutive years since 2021 and recognized it as the Best Managed Bank for 2025.
Dee said the bank’s financial position allows it to continue financing businesses, supporting customers’ major financial milestones and investing in technology, security and its workforce.
“Our financial strength allows us to continue lending, investing in our capabilities and supporting our customers through different market conditions. Ultimately, we believe a bank becomes stronger when the people and businesses it serves become stronger, too,” he said.
Metrobank has also expanded its digital banking capabilities, allowing customers to open eSavings accounts and access online time deposits, UITFs and government securities through its digital channels.
Beyond banking services, the bank has strengthened its financial education and security initiatives. Its Earnest financial mindfulness advocacy and Moneygurado docuseries provide guidance on saving, investing, debt management and financial security.
For businesses, Metrobank offers financing, cash management and investment solutions, along with market insights to help companies manage operations and pursue expansion opportunities.
Its commitment also extends to communities through the Metrobank Foundation, which supports programs in education, health, livelihood, arts and community development.
Among its major initiatives are the Outstanding Filipinos program, which recognizes exceptional teachers, policemen and soldiers, and the George S.K. Ty Grants Program of the Metrobank Foundation and GT Foundation, which supports organizations addressing social needs.
The Metrobank Art & Design Excellence program likewise provides recognition and opportunities for emerging Filipino artists and designers.
As Metrobank enters its 65th year, the bank said its growth remains closely tied to the progress of the customers, businesses and communities it serves.
Dee said the institution intends to build on that partnership by using its financial strength to help customers pursue their goals while continuing to earn their trust.
