Expansion of Matnog port awarded to contractor

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) recently awarded a P2.19-billion contract for the expansion of Matnog Port in Sorsogon to a Davao-based construction and engineering company.

PPA said a joint venture between Khan Kon Chi Construction and Development Corp. and SB Construction Corp. submitted the winning bid of P2.19 billion for Phase 1 of the Matnog Port expansion project.

According to PPA, six companies joined the bidding.

The winning bidder must finish the project within 900 calendar days.

The Matnog port expansion project covers three phases: first phase involves removal, disposal and excavation works to clear the site; the remaining phases include construction of a port operations area and roll-on/roll-off ramp.

Matnog port at the southern tip of Luzon allows land traffic to cross into Samar by ferry, allowing land travel to reach Mindanao via the San Juanico bridge into Leyte, where another ferry crossing brings traffic to Surigao.
