Edgardo Santiago, Ed or Edgar for short, is an educated man who finished his Journalism degree at the Faculty of Arts and Letters of the University of Santo Tomas.
When he was still in college, he was a member of the most recognized fraternity in the college, the Phi Chi Rho that counted the late Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino (MPP) Mario Hernando as one of its masters, senior members.
When Ed passed the initiation rites of the frat, he ran around with Mario who was well-entrenched in show business who motivated and convinced Santiago to get into acting.
While on a vacation mode, Ed was casted by now National Artist for Film Lino Brocka as a supporting character in the trilogy “Tatlo, Dalawa, Isa” (1974) with a special participation in the episode “Hellow Soldier,” an adaptation from a play by Sister Mary Angela Barrios.
“Ako ‘yong humahawi ng mga tao sa squatter’s area dahil dumating do’n ang American father ng GI baby na ginagampanan ni (I was the one who pushed away people milling around the arrival of the real father of) Hilda Koronel,” Ed recalled.
After the anthology film, Lino called up again to appear in his new movie but Ed politely turned it down because he was working on his thesis as a requirement for graduation.
Aside from working in advertising agencies, Edgar had also PR and promotion stints, particularly at Vicor Music Corporation.
And yes, he has always been bitten by showbiz bugs or thrusted into the limelight.
Again, because of his looks, he was discovered as an ad model for both print and TV like Diners Card and GE Ref.
He was also featured in variety shows such as “Twelve O’clock High,” “Ariel Con Tina” and “Rhoda and Me.”
Despite his successes in the mass media, Ed still pursued his dream of going abroad not only to work but to explore foreign cultures.
He, to describe it plainly, is a self-made man in the US.
Ed is currently in the healthcare sector of America.
He is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Maximino Plus.
As a Manager of Maximino Plus, Edgar coordinates and facilitates medical solutions for American Housecall, an enterprise that provides health professional home visits and American Personal Care Services that offer care giving to patients.
At the moment, Santiago provides and officiates virtual assistance to the healthcare sectors across the US. (Boy Villasanta)
