As the long weekend for All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day approaches, Manila Water is assuring its East Zone and Rizal customers of uninterrupted, 24/7 service while families gather to honor their departed loved ones. Dedicated operations and maintenance teams are remaining on standby to monitor facilities, manage the network, and handle customer concerns. However, this effort extends far beyond the holiday, as the utility actively prepares its system for a severe El Niño that could stretch into the first half of 2027.
To build long-term supply resilience during prolonged dry spells, Manila Water is maximizing existing facilities—including the Cardona, East Bay Phase 1, and Calawis treatment plants—while forging ahead on major expansions like East Bay Phase 2 and Kaysakat. Alongside tapping new water sources, the company is tightly managing system losses. By keeping non-revenue water—water lost through leaks, breaks, and illegal connections—below 15%, Manila Water saves an additional 15 to 16 million liters of water daily for every single percentage point reduced.
This reliable distribution performance is driven by pro active network monitoring, routine maintenance, and rapid emergency responses, such as repairing 221 major mainline pipe failures within 24 hours during the first half of 2026. Communication Affairs Department Head Dittie Galang emphasized that while holiday readiness is top of mind, diversifying water sources and curbing losses secures the community’s future. Manila Water also calls on customers to do their part by practicing responsible water use and promptly reporting roadside leaks so field crews can act before supply is impacted.
