He might not be around at the Palazzo del Cinema in Venice, Italy Saturday night but Filipino actor John Arcilla was in excitement in absentia as he received the good news at his home base in the Philippines that he won the prestigious Coppa Volpi Best Actor for is convincing portrayal of an Filipino journalist who is investigating the mysterious and grim disappearances of his colleagues.
He said that he wanted to kiss the Golden Lion Coppa Volpi just like the other winners at the Lido festival but he was happy as well for his victory.
John won the prestigious honor for the film “On the Job: The Missing 8” by award-winning director Erik Matti from Reality Entertainment and Star Cinema.
According to Liza Dino-Seguerra, Chair of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), Arcilla’s triumph is an accomplishment in the local movie industry.
Dino-Seguerre also cited that John is in the league of Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, George Clooney, Ben Affleck etc. who have also won the coveted Venizia trophy.
Meanwhile, Spanish star Penelope Cruz won the Volpi Cup Best Actress for her performance in “Parallel Mothers,” a new melodrama by fellow Spanish film artist Pedro Aldomovar.
