Rez Cortez hopes to unite the two actors’ groups, AKTOR and Actors Guild

As a film and television industry leader, Rez Cortez is optimistic the two organizations of actors, the Katipunan ng mga Artista ng Pelikulang Pilipino at Telebisyon (KAPPT) or Actors Guild of the Philippines groups and AKTOR or League of Filipino Actors.

In the wake of the prep-up of the Film Commission of the Philippines of which Rez is an active participant, he said that all sectors of the country’s movie and television workers will unify with one vision in mind–the promotion of their interests especially in the labor front.

Magkakaisa na ang mga aktor sa pagkakataong ito. Dapat ay sama-sama na tayo at hindi nagkakanya-kanya (Filipino actors will be one this time. We should be united and not doing things individualistically),” declared Rez in our interview Tuesday morning with fellow entertainment journalist Art Tapalla in the online show “The National Entertainment Today” over Media House Express (MHE) Facebook Live, YouTube etc.

“There will be dialogues among us to thresh out problems in the industry,” quipped Cortez, Deputy Director-General of the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP), President of the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (MOWELFUND) and adviser to the KAPPT as its former president.

Sometime during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the likes of Dingdong Dantes, Piolo Pascual, Marian Rivera, Mylene Dizon, Dolly de Leon, Elijah Canlas, Judy Ann Santos, among others, organized themselves and called their group AKTOR or while most of them are members of KAPPT.

AKTOR is not a threat to the KAPPT, according to its members but a conduit to the progress and development of the local movie industry.
