Tanduay emerges as top global rum brand

Tanduay continues to assert its supremacy in the global rum landscape, securing its position as the world’s leading rum brand once again, as declared by Drinks International Magazine. 

According to data compiled from public company reports, the Philippine rum giant achieved remarkable sales of 27.5 million case liters in 2022, representing a substantial 16% surge from the preceding year. Impressively, Tanduay also claimed the title of the fastest-growing rum brand for the same year.

The magazine’s supplement, “The Millionaires’ Club,” which annually publishes rankings of the world’s best-selling spirits brands, noted: “Since demonstrating its enduring strength and experiencing a swift recovery post-pandemic, the rum category has continued to witness growth across most brands, with Tanduay and Barceló both achieving double-digit increases.” 

“Despite the underlying numbers, it was a year of growth for the lion’s share of million case spirits brands, perhaps an indication of an embracing of familiar brands in the face of economic woes. The leading brands in the rum and whisky categories enjoyed growth while gin continues to endure, despite predictions that the bubble is bound to burst imminently,” remarked Oli Dodd, Editor of “The Millionaires’ Club” supplement. 

The magazine, citing insights from the UK-based International Wines and Spirits Record (IWSR), attributed the global rum category’s growth to the growing popularity of cocktail culture. Additionally, people now perceive rum as a “high-quality spirit” alongside cognac and single malt Scotch. 

Drinks International reported that IWSR anticipates a compound annual growth rate of 6% for premium-plus rum volumes between 2021 and 2026. 

For the sixth consecutive year, Tanduay has been recognized as Drinks International Magazine’s World’s Number 1 Rum. The brand initially earned this prestigious title in 2018, coinciding with its ambitious international marketing and expansion efforts. 

In addition to its exceptional sales performance, Tanduay has received accolades for the premium quality of its rums.
