What is TRUTH?

The eyes incline towards beauty; the ears towards musical harmony; the nose towards pleasant smell; the tongue towards good taste; and the skin towards invigorating touch. Above it all, the human mind inclines towards truth.

The past several days threaten the chances of the Filipino mind to get at the truth of many things political in nature.  When the mind has an idea and the tongue speaks out the same idea, we can say that your words were truthful as far as you are concerned. However, when the idea in your mind does not correspond to outside reality, because you do not know the reality; we say that you speak truthfully, but you are wrong.  For example, in the early days, many people thought that the sun revolved around the earth, as observed by everyman, but in reality, it was the earth revolving around the sun, which you did not know. You may be truthful in your opinion, but you are mistaken as proven by later science, but you were not lying. You honestly thought that the world was stationary and the sun was the one circling the earth.

The initial statements from a politician at the scene of the events of May 13 at the Senate were categorical – We are under attack; we were under attack. Later evidences from video footage showed the Attacked were actually Attacking perceived armed men from behind the door.  The people are shifting their beliefs from the words of May 13 to the evidences coming from investigations after May 13. Before the investigations, it might be argued that on May 13 there was no way yet to find where all the gunfire was coming from. Who was telling the truth? We hold on to our respective truths but we must bow to the scientific evidence.
